The French Press is beloved for its rich, full-bodied flavor, but it’s often hated for the gritty mud left at the bottom of the cup. Fortunately, a few simple tweaks can give you that heavy body without the unpleasant texture.
First, ensure you are using a very coarse grind—similar to sea salt. Fine grinds easily slip past the mesh filter. Second, after letting it brew for 4 minutes, use two spoons to scoop out the floating foam and remaining grounds from the top before pressing. Finally, plunge slowly and gently. Stop just before you hit the bottom to avoid stirring up the settled sediment.
